The Art and Science of 'Surrender'
Shift from the 3D mindset of force and control (overactive masculine energy) to 6D Soul Embodiment where we cultivate a nourishing inner ecosystem to effortlessly receive guidance from our Higher Self
If you feel like life is a struggle, that things rarely go your way, or that progress requires a lot of effort, you may be running overactive masculine energy. This was my experience for much of my life. Fair enough I guess — it’s common in today’s modern culture to equate success with hustle mentality, strict discipline and slugging it out at the daily grind.
What if there was an easier, less forceful way?
I’m not here to antagonise masculine energy – it’s extremely valuable when used in its healthy expressions. Without it, we can easily find ourselves ungrounded, unfocused and a bit chaotic. My intention in this article is to offer some respite for those of us (me included) who feel pressured to push or force their way through life.
As a counterbalance, I’ll be sharing how consciously tapping into divine feminine energy can help you sidestep frustration and move through life with more grace, ease and flow.
Ultimately, we’re working towards wielding both masculine and feminine energies with mastery, as well as the ability to discern which energy is most valuable to channel in any given situation.
This article is specifically about harnessing the feminine superpower of Surrender, looking at the common blocks, benefits and misconceptions. To wrap up, I’ve prepare a step-by-step ‘How-to’ guide so you can start experimenting for yourself. Before we get into practical tips though, let’s do a quick introduction to the less popular (and widely underestimated) divine feminine expression of Surrender.

1) Background
I first heard about the concept of spiritual surrender in India. My yoga philosophy teacher introduced Ishvara Pranidhana as one of the 5 Niyamas – the set of personal ethics from Patajali’s Yoga Sutras.
I remember my initial reaction was:
“Why would I want to admit defeat?”
“I don’t want to give my power away”
“I want to stay in control.”
It seemed dangerous to hand over my sense of control and autonomy.
I mean… Who, or what, was I surrendering to anyway?
That was early in my awakening journey and I can see now that my Protective Ego was hyper-vigilent when it encountered themes of power and control. Admittedly, there were many spiritual concepts I wasn’t emotionally mature enough to hold back then.
Just hearing the word ‘Surrender’ annoyed me, triggering unresolved patterns of power play and defensiveness toward authority. I had layers of trauma and conditioning nestled in my subconscious that needed to be addressed before I could meet these philosophical concepts with openness and neutrality.
After that India trip, I continued to hear the word come up again and again in different healing and spiritual circles. It was often mentioned alongside words like trust, faith and allowing – all words I judged as weak, lofty or fluffy.
I concluded it made way more sense to keep whatever sense of control I had rather than giving it way.
2) Why Should I Surrender?
While assertive action is an expression of masculine energy, the more passive nature of Surrender is inherently a feminine expression.
Each energy speaks a different language and requires a different mindset to first understand and then practice.
While masculine energy thrives off logical direction and structure, feminine energy is all about flexibility and flow. It moves through feeling and can be decoded through the intuitive senses. Feminine energy is expressive in nature and comes to life through art, music, dance and anything creative.
The practice of Surrender opens a doorway to these vibrant expressions of feminine energy.
As a newbie spiritual seeker, I became fascinated by people who could commune with the unseen worlds – like seeing visions in meditations, or feeling life-force energy, or trance channeling angels, aliens or multidimensional beings. To me, these people were like X-Men with their superhuman abilities, and deep down I envied them because I wish I could do what they did too.
So I studied the chakra system and tried countless ‘How to open your third eye’ meditations. I binge-watched other channellers and dissected their techniques, but I still wasn’t receiving clear messages. I’d be sitting on my yoga mat, eyes closed, staring into blackness hoping for a tickle in my body, or a vision to flash in or some colour to magically appear. Eventually, my snarky inner critic chimed in: “Give up buddy, it’s not working”.
Those sessions would conclude with irritation and a deflated feeling.
In hindsight, I was trying too hard.
I wanted to know how to ‘do’ it
I wanted a step-by-step process
I wanted to make it happen on demand
That was the problem, I was approaching surrender with forceful masculine energy.
Key Point #1: Only when we step out of our demanding, logical mind, we can invite the feminine energy to gently flow in and open up our channels for divine connection.
3) Symptoms Of Overactive Masculine Energy
Masculine energy is all about practicality, action and doing things to achieve a goal. It’s governed by the logical mind and it thrives in the fields of science, mathematics, engineering and problem-solving.
In its healthy state, masculine energy helps us define a clear direction, follow through on an idea, and take calculated steps to towards our desired destination. In its under active state, we can be indecisive, easily distracted, lack motivation or develop low self-confidence. However, in its overactive state, we can get aggressive and competitive, develop a sense of entitlement or superiority over others, and become workaholics addicted to chasing power, status and external validation.
These Type-A qualities may come in useful for work and productivity, but can also lead to dysfunctional relationships and a self-centred worldview. When this overactive masculine energy fuels a Superior Ego, we get someone who thrives on dominating others and micromanagement.
Other symptoms of overactive masculine energy include:
Rigid beliefs and self-righteousness
Trying to influence what others do or how they should feel (to make themselves feel comfortable)
Giving unsolicited advice (in an attempt to manipulate or control)
Key Point #2: Surrender requires you to override your Ego’s default urge for control.
One of the primary roles of our ego is to protect us from perceived threat.
As our inbuilt defence mechanism, our Ego prefers familiar environments where it can feel in control. Our ego has formed strong opinions based on what it’s experienced in the past, often establishing coping mechanisms to manage unresolved trauma. Its rigidity reflects the degree of safety, stability and security our wounded aspects desire to feel.
This is what it’s designed to do, to maintain a level of safety by avoiding unsafe situations. The unknown is unfamiliar and therefore unsafe according to the Ego.
Because of all these reasons, our Ego naturally feels uncomfortable with the idea of Surrender. Surrender makes little sense to the logical mind. But at some point in our healing and spiritual growth, we outgrow the coping mechanisms that our Ego set up long ago to keep us safe.
The problem with overactive masculine energy is it blocks out our ability to receive intuitive guidance, creative inspiration and communication from the higher realms.
4) The Art Of Surrender
One attempt to develop my channeling abilities was joining a psychic training course. Here, I learnt that connection to the higher realm requires the release of control, a spaciousness to receive and sensitivity to witness subtle intuitive hits when they drop in or arise.
These are all Yin qualities, which can feel foreign for those who grew up practicing and prioritising Yang qualities like chasing, forcing and grinding it out.
The practice of Surrender is not logically understood by the mind, but it can be experienced as subtle shifts in the body and energy field.
Key Point #3: Surrender is an art form.
It requires you to tap into your feminine energy so that you can sense, feel and allow sensations to arise naturally, without force or expectation.
You can’t demand Surrender to happen instantly, it is a gentle unfurling. However, there are some steps that you can take to prepare your body and mind to cultivate an energetic space favourable for Surrender to unfold in its own way.
Key point #4: Surrender is about receptivity.
Deepening our experience of Surrender requires a rewiring of our mind and body. We want to train our mind and body to be more comfortable with the unknown. Because when we sit peacefully with the unknown, we access the infinite void of possibility.
The less judgment and expectation we have in our minds, the less subjective filters we have on the information that comes through.
Key point #5: Surrender is a new relationship with creation.
Becoming an open channel feels like creating a pipeline directly up to divine Source. Making sure this pipeline is clean and clear from personal stories, judgements or interpretations helps to preserve the purity and integrity of the parcels of information that drop down.
Over time, we can widen that pipeline into a thick column so that a greater stream of information can come down and through us. As with any skill, this channel takes practice to strengthen and eventually master.
Key point #6: The experience of Surrender deepens as you allow it flow.
The only thing we have to ‘try’ to do is stay out of our own way. That means doing our best to not judge our experiences or interrupt it with mental chatter. We practice becoming more comfortable stilling the mind and being at ease floating in emptiness – trusting what is meant for us will come and gently dissolving any self-doubt, harsh criticism or feelings of inadequacy if they arise.
It took me a while to grasp this new language, but with more practice, I’ve noticed many benefits for my own spiritual practice and approach to life.
5) Surrender Is Not Blind Faith
Let’s circle back to one of my earlier questions: “What or who was I surrendering to?”
Faith is a powerful tool for manifestation, overcoming the trappings of fear and raising your vibration. But blind faith – the type that recklessly gives our power away without intentionality – can often land us in sticky situations.
One game-changing key on my journey of learning how to Surrender was clarifying who I was handing over control and trust to.
Some people are able to surrender to God or the universe. Other people can place their trust in certain deities, angelic beings, ascended masters or benevolent spirit guides. To be honest, I found this a little challenging. The leap of faith felt too big without any personal evidence or experience to reference.
The main issue here was my capacity to trust.
For those of us taking baby steps into the world of spirit, letting our sense of control all go without knowing what, who or how is daunting (and can make you think you’re a little insane to the logical mind).
Key point #7: Surrender is consciously choosing to trust in a higher power, wholeheartedly.
6) The Science Of Surrender
When our Ego is the driver’s seat, we are primarily concerned about self-aggrandising or self-preservation. It’s not the best aspect of ourselves to surrender to because it is easily influenced by fears and past wounding. Understanding the anatomy of the Soul can help us zoom out of our ego-centric experience and acknowledge the presence and roles of our higher aspects.
Where many people get stuck, including myself, is thinking that the Lower Mind’s role is to be the driver or the strategist. The key that helped me overcome this mental block was to direct my surrender to my Higher Self, also referred to as the Higher Mind.
According to Bashar, the individualised expression of my Soul (that is currently incarnated as a human named Kevin) is comprised of 3 parts:
From a soul perspective, Kevin is made up of:
A Physical Body
A Lower Mind (Ego Mind connected to our Physical body)
A Higher Mind (Spiritual Mind that exists outside of the body that has a direct connection to our Soul)
The Higher Mind: is the multidimensional aspect of us that resides outside of 3D time and space. From its vantage point, it has access to all possibilities so it is uniquely positioned to ideate and strategise the best route to move forward on our Soul learning. It’s primary role is to CONCEIVE the idea or path forward.
The Lower Mind: is the bridge between spirit and physicality. It’s primary role is to RECEIVE the higher guidance and decide what to do with this guidance
The Physical Body: is the vessel in which we experience physical reality. Its primary role is to PERCEIVE the experience of the path through our physical senses.
This means that:
My Higher Mind can finally do it’s job and send guidance on the best path forward
My Lower Mind can focus on surrendering control and receiving that higher guidance (through the form of intuitive hunches, downloads and synchronicities) and take inspired action
And finally, the Physical Body can perceive the sensory experience of that inspired action.
It requires a conscious act to shift from Lower Mind to Higher Mind, and trust each aspect to do the job it was specifically designed for and assigned to do.
This means my Lower Mind does not try to micromanage and I can sit back and trust that whatever unfolds is not an irresponsible leap of faith. Instead, surrendering to my Higher Self is an intentional choice to get out of my own way.
I can trust my Higher Self to orchestrate signs, synchronicities and intuitive hunches that will guide me to what’s meant for me.
I place my trust in this intelligent system of consciousness that exists outside of my physical body. I can trust that it has my best interests at heart, even if that means challenges and initiations, because it IS another expression of me, only existing in a higher plane.
By mapping out the science of how it works, my Ego mind is onboard because it understands the benefits of the process and I find it easier to discern when to release expectation and control, and when to take inspired action. And I feel more confident who I am surrendering to and why I should trust whatever unfolds for me is for my highest good.
7) Ritual: Surrender To Your Higher Self
Step 1) Accept
What we resist, persists. To initiate the process of Surrender, we have to accept the current situation as it is right now. Embracing the present moment without judgement instantly resets our self-sovereignty by calling back any power we’ve given away to people, places or situations under the guise of victim-mentality.
Affirmation: “I accept my current situation exactly as it is right now”
Step 2) Release
Next, we energetically release all self-judgements, attachments and resistance. You can visualise cords being cut, heavy energy falling off you or light spreading from your heart space that dissolves any .
Technique #1. Cutting Cords
Inhale: Visualise ropes or cords around you
Exhale: Sense, see or feel them being cut and releasing from you
Affirm: “I cut all cords and attachments to this situation”
Allow your energetic field to reconfigure to this lighter frequency.
Technique #2. White-light Shower
Inhale: Visualise heavy, stagnant energy in your auric field.
Exhale: Invite white light to shower down from above you. Sense, see or feel the heavy energy slide off you effortlessly
Affirm: “I release all my resistance to this situation”
Allow your energetic field to reconfigure to this lighter frequency.
Technique #3. Violet Flame
Inhale: Tune into your heart space
Exhale: Sense, see or feel a bright violet-coloured fire lighting up in your heartspace and spreading throughout your body
Affirm: “I dissolve all judgements with the fire of my own Self-Love”
Allow your energetic field to stabilise at this lighter frequency.
Step 3) Delegate:
Now it’s time to reassign power to our Higher Self.
Inhale: Visualise a steering wheel, video game controller or any other symbol of control
Exhale: Sense, see or feel yourself handing this up to your Higher Self
Affirm: “I hand over control to my Higher Self. I trust you to lead me to my highest joy and excitement. Show me signs, guidance or inspiration for the next perfect step.”
Step 4) Gratitude:
We complete the ritual by expressing gratitude to our Higher Self.
Affirm: “Thank you for always guiding and supporting me.”
8) Final Tips
Remember, if we have a history of overactive masculine energy, then practicing Surrender will feel uncomfortable at first. We may have developed rigid belief systems that have programmed our mind (and body) for over-controlling. To rewire this, we need to create new neuropathways that support a new capacity for Surrender.
Start with small, low-risk experiments.
We might be sceptical if this Higher Self system will actually work – fair enough, it’s not a common thing to do (yet).
As you test and experience the system for yourself, you’ll receive evidence and establish a positive feedback loop.
More practice = more evidence.
More evidence = more trust.
More trust = More willingness to surrender, a stronger channel and a divinely guided life.
Good luck,
Kevin
I loved this article. Really put my journey into perspective. Thank you for sharing buddy!
